The latest British Gambling Prevalence Survey, found that between one third and one half a million British adults experienced a gambling problem in the previous 12 months.
Gambling has repercussions for families, and studies have documented the links between addiction and neglect, debt and violence. 30% of domestic violence cases were related to problem gambling.
84% of betting shops are on every British high street in poorer areas where there is high unemployment, where there are migrant workers and those who work antisocial hours in low paid industries, e.g. Chinatowns.
